Getting Worried

December 18th, 2017 at 04:27 pm

Husband's work still hasn't given out their Christmas bonus... It is normally deposited by now. No one knows what is going on, but the workers are starting to worry that there won't be a bonus this year. I hope not. So many people live check to check and husband said lots of people have already spent that money on Christmas presents, etc. (Including us!)

If it doesn't come we will manage. But the thought of a company not giving out a bonus (which they have given out for 75 years) makes me sick. How could they do that to their workers? They continue to get greedier and greedier, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise. Husband is saying people will strike if they withhold the bonus. I hope they are just taking longer than normal. *fingers crossed*

In other news, house is slowly going along. Still waiting on the mud/taper. He was supposed to start today but no word yet. :/ That is holding up a lot of progress.

Still trying to figure out goals for 2018. I will have to make another post for that.

A bonus should never be planned on in my opinion, even if always paid in the past. Business profits change based on many factors. And business owners have a right to profits, that is why they are in business in the first place. I'm glad you will be okay either way!

A bonus is not a necessity. (I certainly don't get one) BUT if a company has always given one I think it would be incredibly cruel to just cut it off without any warning. Especially since the company is definitely not hurting for money. They made 190 million this year... All 3 owners bought at least one or two new cars EACH this year.

Many workers count on that money. Even if they shouldn't. It would just be bad business to take back something that was always termed as an employee benefit.

I would say a bonus is never guarantee. It's exactly that a bonus. And they aren't obligated to give it even with a good year. Nor are they obligated to explain changes one year to the next.

However if they don't give a bonus that is what many people fear from the tax cuts. Instead of more money to the workers it might go straight into the owners pockets.

At least you guys are okay without the bonus.

Yes, a bonus should never be relied upon as any semblance of income. However, ethically speaking, the business/business owner should have the loyalty/integrity to notify the workforce at least sixty day's prior to the normal disbursement of said bonus that there will be none this fiscal year.

See National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation for supporting deposition information.

My company stopped our bonuses a few years ago. It was definitely disappointing. I hope it comes through for you and DH.

Well thank goodness I spoke too soon! Learned today that he will be receiving a bonus on Friday! Smile It is going to be smaller than normal, but we are happy with anything.

And yes Out of the Dark, nation lampoons was exactly what I was thinking. lol.
