Another hard year for us, but we have somehow improved our net worth. Mostly with the increase in retirement, which is good to see growing.
We were trying to spend less this year but our roof needed to be replaced after a storm and we've had major car troubles. All our expenses have continued to go up faster than our income. My husband unfortunately only got a 3.5% raise, which doesn't even cover our increase in medical insurance, home insurance and property taxes. This means our budget will be even tighter this year. Sigh. Somehow, we have gotten poorer despite "inflation-matching raises" over the last 4 years or so.
2026 we will need to purchase a new car. I'm having another baby and will have lots of medical bills again. I am applying for financial assistance on the medical bills and I think I will get a reduction this year which would be amazing for us. We also still have some large home remodel projects that need to be done. I was hoping to do one this year but it got derailed by the unexpected roof replacement.
One of our parents passed away abruptly and unexpectedly in the last few months and this holiday season has been especially hard. I'm glad to move onto 2026 and put this year behind us. Hoping for a better new year.
