Spending Today Saving Tomorrow

December 9th, 2013 at 03:57 pm

It has been a hard couple weeks.

We got 14 inches of snow this weekend! Our town had the highest amount in all of our tri-state region!

Oh course that meant I was snowed in but silly me still felt I needed to get to work, since I have taken off so much in the past couple weeks.

Got 2 cars stuck and didn't make it to work...

Ended up missing 4 days of work, and I did not even get to enjoy my long weekend because I was too busy stressing about how I was going to get to work, because I need money!

Not only am I getting another low pay check this week, and next. My washer has broken. Frown I am hoping father in law can fix it, but I am not holding my breath. I can NOT afford to buy a new washer. Right now I am taking clothes to wash at our parents house when we go to visit... yay.

I have been falling behind on my saving goals, and I even had to steal some out of the EF to make ends meet. Sadness.

Now for the good news!

My Christmas shopping is almost done. I think I have about $40 - $50 more to spend and I am done. Praise the Lord.

I was contacted about doing a Web Site finally! Whoot! I am really hoping the deal goes through because that extra money would help me so much right now. I am still waiting to hear back from them with my fingers crossed!

Despite the roads being icy, I pushed ahead and still went to the BackStreet Boys concert yesterday that I have been waiting my entire life for. It was great! And we did not wreck, so that is a good thing.

Found out husband may be getting a Christmas bonus from work! As much as $750!! We are not for sure, but I certainly hope the rumors are true.

Husband is going to use the money to replace his broken car windshield, and he would like to buy a gun. I doubt he will let me save any of the money, but maybe I can talk him into it.

I hope next week is better! Can't wait to start saving money again, and get out of the hole I am in!

I hope you get the website work.

I just posted about the same thing you were talking about....having to miss work due to weather issues and needing to make more money.

    So i hear ya!

Ah, yay, if you get the one website deal, you have a new item for your resume, and your well-done job could lead to good word of mouth, maybe more jobs! Crossing my fingers for you

Yes! I am really needing to expand my portfolio. It is very small and new right now. So any new work not only gives me money, but the practice and word of mouth I need too!

Sending positive vibes that you get the web site contract. Likewise hope DH will share perhaps 10% of his bonus with the EF.

In our area the police ordered the highways closed as blowing snow caused limited visibility. It was ghastly for truckers and those who had already left the city limits. People in small communities opened their homes and even the community centre to take in stranded travellers serving soup, sandwiches and offering [very uncomfortable] folding cots. Our city police asked those who didn't need to drive or lacked 4 wheel drive to stay home as snow ploughs were getting stuck! The schools stayed open but ran condensed programs with staff who were able to get to work.

Sorry your washer crashed and hope it can be repaired for a modest cost. Earlier this year we bought a 'new' W/D from the new owners of a show home. They didn't like the basic, builder's model nor did they like the colour. In years past we've bought appliances from the scratch & dent aisle since the dings don't affect the workings. I suggest checking Consumer's magazine to learn features and Best Buy new machines. If you don't use all the extra features, it's pointless to spend more for all the buttons.

Don't be too hard on yourself. We all have weeks like this and that is what the EF is for. Our microwave and our garbage disposal broke this week. Yay! On top of holiday spending and stress. And six months ago, our washer went out --Twice. I fixed it once, then two weeks later something else was wrong with it, so we had to spend a bunch on a new one and do laundry at a friend's house. I really do feel you!

I am glad you guys can all relate!

I am hoping husband would let me put $100 or $200 in the EF and he can save/spend the rest as he sees fit. He wants to increase his checking account cushion, which I think is a good idea since he keeps his currently at only $100 to $150.

Got some more Christmas gifts. Only have about $20 more I need to buy, and I will be done! Hurray!
