The Long Weekend

August 23rd, 2016 at 06:22 pm

Whew! What a whirlwind weekend.

Thursday - Goats to the vet for health check
Friday - Work a half day then drive all evening to goat show
Saturday & Sunday - At goat show, arrived home after 11.30pm on Sunday
Monday - Drive goat I borrowed 9 hours back home
Tuesday - Wake up and take different goat to the vet

Now I'm back at work, and I'm tired. Have a ton of work from both jobs to do. We did very well at the show.

While I was gone our plumbing backed up, but husband managed to take it all apart and get it going again. Thank goodness.

He also took apart the washer, and worked on his car. And both are working again, for now. What good news!

We will still probably keep saving and purchase a washer or stove soon. Just because I know they are going to go out sooner rather than later. But at least we don't have to rush quite as much. I'll be keeping my eye on the Labor Day sale ads and see if we can get a bargain.

What do you do at a goat show? Sell goats? Compete for prizes?

Funny thing is my husband is NOT handy at all. But his father helped him.

We borrowed a male goat to breed some of our girls. So we drove and picked him up last month, he romanced the ladies, and Monday we drove him back home.

The goat show is a competition. They group the goats by ages, and a judge chooses which goat has the best body and udder for their age. Then they also take all the winners of each age group and pick the overall winner which is called Grand Champion. 2nd place is called Reserve Champion. You win some money, but it is mostly for "bragging rights" and it increases the value of your goats. Because basically a professional has said yours are better than every one else's.

We won Grand Champion and Reserve Champion in Junior Does. (Girls who have never been bred) And Grand Champion in Senior Does. We also won Premier Exhibitor, which means we had the best overall goats and won the most.
