Starting a Blog... Questions

April 19th, 2016 at 07:41 pm

Husband and I have been toying around with the idea of starting a blog.

I'm a web designer, and he is a photography enthusiast. Seems like a good fit. We are remodeling a house, and live on a farm. So we have content.

But I think I am mostly worried about remaining partly anonymous.

I already have a successful goat business and website, with my contact information on it. If I make a blog which ties to that, I worry about peopling linking this savingadvice blog to the new blog, or to my goat business. I'm not sure if I am comfortable with everyone knowing my name, address, income, etc. How can I prevent this? I'm not sure how much should be kept private.

I'd love to share the new blog with you guys. But at the same time. I feel like I don't want this more private area of my life attached to my name, etc. Thoughts? Ideas on how I should go about this?

Well, make sure your username is nothing like your SA one and continue not to use your real names. Right now there is no tie between your SA blog and your goat website, right? Does your new blog have to tie directly to your goat business? I don't tie any of my blogs directly to my farm sales, period. But then I do my farm sales on Facebook. However I have had someone comment on my blog that they are from the area and would like to buy a rabbit from me at which point I will get their contact info and contact them, never the other way around. I have managed to write the two blogs and run the youtube channel and keep them anonymous. I have never used my real name. I am always called Robin. I also use my business email for farm stuff, never something with my actual name on it.

Even if I didn't use my name on the blog, I think anyone would easily be able to figure it out. The type of goats I raise are pretty rare, so I'm easily to locate by that alone. Also, if I share pictures on here, on my blog, on my website, on facebook. I don't see how they could really stay completely separate...

With the type of blog I intend to do, I think it is pretty customary to use at least your real first name. I guess I wouldn't mind the farm website and the blog linking up, but I'd prefer this to stay completely separate. Which might mean not sharing pictures or many updates outside of the financial realm here.
